Vietnam addresses workforce shortages in semiconductor and infrastructure sectors

Vietnam is facing significant human resource challenges across key technical sectors, specifically in semiconductor manufacturing and large-scale infrastructure development.

In the semiconductor industry, experts emphasize the need for a comprehensive training strategy that covers the entire technical ecosystem. Dr. Ha Thuc Vien of Vietnamese-German University (VGU) noted that training must move beyond integrated circuit (IC) design to include testing, packaging, manufacturing, and equipment. This requires a multidisciplinary approach involving electronics, computer science, mathematics, materials science, and mechanical engineering to bridge the gap between academic training and industry requirements.

Simultaneously, the construction and infrastructure sectors are experiencing acute labor shortages due to a surge in major national projects, including high-speed railways and road networks. Industry leaders, such as representatives from Deo Ca Group, report a growing pressure to recruit skilled workers as demand is expected to rise significantly. Stakeholders suggest that a closer partnership between the state, educational institutions, and enterprises—often referred to as the 'three-party' model—is essential to align vocational training with actual market needs.
