Vietnam advances cardiac care with stem‑cell therapy and rapid PCI saves patients

A 34‑year‑old Vietnamese man with dilated cardiomyopathy received autologous bone‑marrow stem‑cell therapy delivered via the coronary artery at Hospital 19‑8 after conventional medication failed to improve his symptoms. The procedure aimed to enhance left‑ventricular function by promoting angiogenesis, modulating immune response and limiting fibrosis. Post‑procedure monitoring showed stable hemodynamics and no immediate complications.

In a separate case, a 51‑year‑old man with untreated hypertension suffered an acute myocardial infarction and cardiac arrest at the Bach Mai Hospital branch in Ninh Bình. A rapid 50‑minute emergency response, including CPR, extracorporeal cardiac support and emergency percutaneous coronary intervention, restored coronary flow with stent placement. The patient’s heart function improved within hours and he was fully conscious two days later. Both cases highlight Vietnam’s growing capacity for advanced cardiac treatments, from regenerative therapies to expedited lifesaving interventions.
