Vietnam advances Meteorology and Hydrology Law and leadership

Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is prioritizing the completion of the revised Law on Meteorology and Hydrology. During a recent working session, officials reviewed progress from the first nine months of the year, noting efforts to improve disaster forecasting and warning systems amid complex weather patterns and El Nino risks.

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology reported that forecasting reliability for storms, heavy rain, floods, and landslides currently maintains a rate of 70-90%. The agency is also advancing digital transformation, utilizing high-resolution numerical models, a Tier 3 data center, and the Cray XC40-AC supercomputer to enhance monitoring and scientific research.

In a related administrative development, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Van Khiem has been officially appointed as the Deputy Director of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology. The appointment aims to strengthen the agency's capacity to advise the Ministry on state management of meteorological and hydrological services to protect lives and property.
