Vietnam advances organ transplantation with multi-organ and domino techniques

Vietnam's medical sector has achieved significant advancements in organ transplantation, moving beyond single-organ procedures to master complex multi-organ and domino transplantation techniques.

According to the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management under the Ministry of Health, the country now operates 34 transplant centers capable of performing heart, liver, lung, kidney, and cornea transplants. Dr. Ha Anh Duc, director of the department, stated that the nation's capacity to perform these advanced techniques has reached a level comparable to the world's leading transplant centers.

Multi-organ transplantation involves placing two or more organs into a single patient, requiring rigorous patient selection and complication management. Domino transplantation is a specialized procedure where an organ removed from a transplant recipient is subsequently transplanted into another patient, provided strict professional criteria are met. These successes reflect improvements in surgical skill, medical team coordination, and organ donation systems.
