Vietnam advances water infrastructure and wastewater treatment projects
Vietnam is implementing several infrastructure projects to improve water quality and sanitation. In Dong Nai, authorities have set a target for 85% of rural households to have access to standard clean water by 2030. Currently, the province has 139 centralized water supply works with a total design capacity of over 96,000 m3/day, though many older, smaller facilities are no longer operational due to degradation. As of September 2026, the rural clean water usage rate reached 80.55%.
In Khanh Hoa, a project valued at over 232 billion VND has been approved to upgrade the wastewater treatment system in the Nha Trang area. The initiative aims to close five discharge outlets along the northern beaches of Nha Trang to prevent domestic wastewater from flowing directly into the sea and rivers. This project, scheduled for implementation between 2026 and 2028, will separate rainwater from sewage, directing wastewater to treatment plants to protect the marine ecosystem and local tourism landscapes.
