Vietnam agencies report heightened food safety and customs enforcement in first half of 2026

Vietnam's public safety and trade authorities disclosed extensive enforcement actions during the first six months of 2026. At a food‑safety forum in Hanoi, officials said police and market‑management forces processed 5,992 food‑related violations, initiated 123 criminal cases and imposed more than VND 330.7 billion (≈ US$14 million) in fines and confiscations. Notable seizures included over 20 tonnes of undocumented frozen animal organs in Ho Chi Minh City and sizeable imports of contraband meat products.

Separately, the General Department of Customs reported that total import‑export turnover reached US$549.7 billion, up 27 % year‑on‑year, and customs revenue rose to VND 264,795 billion, a 19 % increase. The agency detected 11,418 violations, up 38 % from the previous year, and seized goods worth roughly VND 9,926 billion, covering fuel, gold, counterfeit items and narcotics. Both sectors highlighted the use of digital platforms and AI tools to improve monitoring and processing of cases.
