Vietnam agencies strengthen cooperation to combat corruption and wastefulness

The State Audit Office of Vietnam, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Supreme People’s Procuracy held a webinar in Hanoi to enhance inter-institutional cooperation in combating corruption, wastefulness, and misconduct.

Officials noted that corruption methods have become increasingly sophisticated, often involving collusion to form “interest groups” and the manipulation of policy-making, planning, and bidding processes. Criminal activities frequently involve the use of “backyard” firms, abuse of asset valuations, and the concealment or dispersal of assets through seemingly legal economic activities.

Since 2020, economic crime police have initiated proceedings against more than 3,700 cases involving approximately 8,900 suspects. These investigations have resulted in asset recoveries exceeding 600 trillion VND (approximately 23 billion USD). Investigators emphasized the need to identify “points of suspicion” early to reconstruct policymaking processes and trace actual financial benefits.
