Vietnam agricultural exports face growth potential in Algeria

Vietnamese agricultural products possess significant untapped potential in the Algerian market. While exports to North Africa have trended upward, they remain heavily concentrated on a limited range of key products, such as coffee, cashew nuts, pepper, rice, dried coconut, and certain aquatic products.

According to Mohamed Nabil, a commercial advisor for the Algerian Import-Export, Trade, and Investment Forum (AFIETI), Vietnamese exporters must better understand Algerian import regulations and proactively adjust their market strategies to increase their market share. Success in this market requires establishing direct partnerships and strengthening local presence.

While coffee accounts for a substantial portion of export value—sometimes reaching 80% to 85% of total exports to Algeria—the diversity of exported goods remains limited. For instance, while rice was once a major export, its presence in Algerian distribution circuits has declined significantly. Navigating specific regulations, such as those managed by the Algerian Interprofessional Office of Cereals (OAIC), is essential for exporters to ensure compliance and market entry.
