Vietnam aims to defend AFF Cup 2026 title ahead of friendly with Myanmar

Vietnam’s national football team is preparing to defend its Southeast Asian Games title at the 2026 AFF Cup. Vice‑president of the Vietnam Football Federation, Tran Anh Tu, said the squad will intensify training through a series of matches, including a friendly against Myanmar on 18 July at the renovated Thai Nguyen stadium.

Coach Kim Sang Sik, who returned from a two‑week training camp in South Korea, announced a 28‑player roster on 15 June. The team will gather in Hanoi from 22 June before heading to South Korea for further preparation. Vietnam, as defending champions, will open the AFF Cup on 24 July against Timor Leste, while the Myanmar side will compete in Group B.

The schedule also features participation in the ASEAN Nations Cup in July–August, the FIFA ASEAN Cup in September–October, as well as upcoming Asian Games and U‑23 and U‑17 tournaments later in the year.
