Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 makes emergency return to Munich

A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 was forced to make an emergency return to Munich Airport on Saturday, August 15, following a technical issue during takeoff. The aircraft reportedly circled the Munich region for over two hours to consume fuel before landing.

Reports suggest the aircraft may have experienced a ‘tail strike,’ where the rear of the plane makes contact with the runway. Flight tracking data and video footage indicated a skid on the runway and a large cloud of dust during departure, supporting the hypothesis of a strike.

Upon landing, the aircraft was unable to vacate the north runway under its own power and remained immobilized, leading to the closure of that runway. Air traffic was subsequently rerouted to the south runway. Vietnam Airlines confirmed that all passengers and cabin crew were evacuated safely via emergency slides and that everyone remained unharmed.
