Vietnam Airlines delays flight to transport donated organs

Vietnam Airlines flight VN218 from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi twice delayed its departure on August 20 to accommodate a medical team and donated organs. The delays occurred because the medical assessment and reception process took longer than initially expected.

Upon landing at Noi Bai Airport, the medical team and the organs were met by ambulances to ensure rapid transport to hospitals. The shipment included a liver, a heart, and two corneas destined for hospitals in Hanoi and Hue. Specifically, the liver and one cornea were transported on flight VN218 to 108 Military Central Hospital and 103 Military Hospital, respectively.

Medical reports indicate that the liver transplant was performed on the night of August 20, and patients are currently being monitored with positive progress. The airline coordinated closely with the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center and airport authorities to prioritize security and boarding procedures to maintain the strict preservation timelines required for the organs.
