Vietnam and Australia Expand Defence Cooperation
Vietnam and Australia announced on 29 July 2026 that they will broaden their defence cooperation. The agreement covers peace‑keeping operations, development of the defence industry, joint training, maritime security and measures to address the aftermath of past wars. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang said the partnership is a key pillar of bilateral ties, and both sides will explore new potential areas for collaboration.
In a separate diplomatic gesture, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung sent condolences to Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae after the deadly earthquake in Japan’s Kumamoto Prefecture, expressing Vietnam’s solidarity with the Japanese people.
