Vietnam and Brazil seek to expand trade and investment ties

Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi participated in the Seafood Show Latin America 2026 in São Paulo to promote bilateral economic cooperation. A delegation of 14 Vietnamese companies, including nine members of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), attended the exhibition to showcase products such as shrimp, pangasius, and tuna to the Latin American market.

Ambassador Nghi proposed three primary areas for cooperation: strengthening direct business connections, enhancing technical coordination to facilitate trade, and expanding investment within the fisheries sector. He also encouraged industry support for the negotiation of a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between Vietnam and MERCOSUR to improve market access.

Beyond seafood, discussions with Brazilian leaders from companies such as JBS and CSX Holding covered potential cooperation in oil and gas, infrastructure, biofuels, mining, high technology, and cybersecurity. Brazilian representatives expressed interest in joint ventures and indicated plans to visit Vietnam in early 2027 to explore market opportunities.
