Vietnam and Cambodia coordinate on friendship monument preservation
The Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam and the National United Development Front of Cambodia held their ninth meeting in Ho Chi Minh City from October 1 to 3. Led by Deputy Minister of National Defence Nguyen Van Gau and Samdech Men Sam An, President of the National United Development Front of Cambodia, the talks focused on evaluating the progress of Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument projects.
Since 2015, Vietnam has provided over $25 million to support 24 projects involving the construction, renovation, and restoration of these monuments across Cambodia. Additionally, Vietnamese funding has been used to upgrade the headquarters and equipment of the National United Development Front of Cambodia.
Both parties agreed to prioritize the long-term management, preservation, and promotion of these sites, recognizing them as significant historical and cultural landmarks that symbolize the friendship between the two nations. Most projects have been completed and handed over to local authorities and the Front for management.
