Vietnam and Cambodia strengthen border customs cooperation

Customs authorities from Vietnam and Cambodia held the 7th Vietnam-Cambodia Border Customs Conference in Siem Reap from September 15–17, 2026. The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation and mutual support in accordance with a 2019 memorandum of understanding between the two nations' finance ministries.

Delegations were led by Vu Quang Toan, Head of the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department of Vietnam Customs, and Nou Sytha, Director of the Anti-Smuggling Department of Cambodian Customs. The participants reviewed recent results in combating smuggling and trade fraud, evaluating the effectiveness of collaborative efforts since the previous conference held in Vietnam in 2025.

Discussions focused on practical challenges at border checkpoints, information exchange, and joint inspection mechanisms. Both sides committed to enhancing professional coordination to improve control efficiency and address emerging difficulties in cross-border law enforcement.
