Vietnam and Canada expand scientific and technological cooperation

The elevation of relations between Vietnam and Canada to a strategic partnership level is opening new avenues for cooperation in science, technology, and innovation. This shift aims to transition potential collaborative opportunities into concrete programs and projects.

Associate Professor Vu Viet Hung, President of the Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts in Canada (CVSEA), emphasized that Vietnamese leadership highly values the intellectual resources of the overseas Vietnamese community. The CVSEA is expected to act as a “scientific and technological ambassador” for Vietnam in Canada while mentoring younger generations of professionals.

Key priority areas for cooperation include:

1. Energy, environment, and sustainable development: Leveraging Canada's expertise to meet Vietnam's energy security needs through technologies related to liquefied natural gas (LNG), hydrogen, and critical minerals.

2. Digital technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and innovation: Utilizing Canada's cutting-edge research capabilities.

3. Cross-sector support: Science and technology are expected to bolster sectors such as transportation, trade, investment, culture, and education.
