Vietnam and China to develop smart border crossings

Authorities from Vietnam and China are collaborating to develop smart border crossings to streamline goods clearance and improve infrastructure. The initiative aims to facilitate smoother trade and transport between the two nations.

During discussions between the Dong Dang-Lang Son Economic Zone Border Gate Board of Directors and the Pingxiang People's Government in Guangxi, China, officials explored technological applications for import and export operations. One proposal from Lang Son province involves testing a goods reception and delivery system using automated guided vehicles (AGVs) with a trailer decoupling method. This pilot program would initially focus on electronic components and full container loads, with a target trailer stay of less than 48 hours.

Additionally, Vietnamese officials requested improvements to the connection road at the Coc Nam-Nong Yao border gate, noting that the current single-lane section on the Chinese side limits cargo dispatch capacity. Both parties intend to work with relevant authorities to establish a legal framework for smart cross-border transport.
