Vietnam expands strategic partnerships with US, Algeria and France

Vietnam and Algeria reaffirmed their long‑standing friendship, pledging deeper political, economic and cultural cooperation after a meeting between Vietnamese Ambassador Trần Quốc Khánh and the Algerian FLN leadership in Algiers. Both sides highlighted shared anti‑colonial history and agreed to broaden collaboration in trade, investment, education and people‑to‑people exchanges.

In Hanoi, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung hosted U.S. Ambassador Jennifer Wicks, stating that Vietnam views the United States as a “priority partner” and seeks to elevate the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The leaders discussed accelerating a balanced trade agreement, expanding cooperation on law‑enforcement, cybersecurity, humanitarian assistance and the remediation of dioxin and unexploded ordnance, as well as joint efforts to locate missing U.S. service members.

Paris hosted talks between Vietnamese National Assembly committee chair Lê Tân Tới and French committee chair Jean‑Michel Jacques, resulting in an agreement to deepen parliamentary cooperation and extend joint work across strategic sectors such as defence, energy, high‑tech agriculture, space and maritime security. Both sides reiterated support for the EU‑Vietnam Free Trade Agreement and urged France to help lift the EU’s “yellow‑card” warning on Vietnamese seafood.

Separately, Vietnamese entrepreneurs in France are beginning to establish a presence in the private sector. Founder Vu Nguyet Anh described the need to “reset from zero” when launching a travel‑consulting firm in Strasbourg, while restaurateur Phan Viet Phong highlighted disciplined management as key to sustaining his Obobun restaurant chain. Their experiences illustrate growing economic ties and the challenges of operating in a new market.
