Vietnam and Greece deepen bilateral ties during Hanoi talks

Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung hosted Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis in Hanoi on 17 July 2026. The two officials highlighted the historic friendship between the countries, citing the legacy of Kostas Sarantidis (Nguyen Van Lap) as a symbol of their shared past.

They agreed to expand cooperation across multiple sectors, including maritime transport, logistics, renewable energy, culture, tourism, science, technology and innovation. Both sides called for rapid completion of pending bilateral agreements covering shipping, labour and double‑taxation avoidance. Greece, a non‑permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2025‑2026 term, pledged continued support for Vietnam’s effort to lift the European Commission’s “yellow card” on illegal fishing and urged EU members to ratify the EU‑Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement. A Greek business delegation is expected to visit Vietnam to explore investment opportunities, with Vietnam offering market access for Greek products such as kiwifruit.
