Vietnam and Ioannina aim to strengthen cooperation

Vietnamese Ambassador to Greece, Pham Thi Thu Huong, met with Ioannina Mayor Thomas Begas to discuss enhancing economic and cultural ties. The discussions highlighted the 50-year friendship between Vietnam and Greece and planned high-level delegation exchanges for 2026.

During the visit, the Ambassador addressed the welfare of approximately 300 Vietnamese workers currently employed in Ioannina’s food processing sector. Mayor Begas expressed readiness to support these workers and showed interest in expanding diplomatic and cooperative links between Ioannina and ASEAN member states, including Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand, through culture, tourism, and sports.

Ambassador Huong also visited Nitsiakos and Pindos, two of Greece’s leading food processing companies, to observe the working conditions and needs of Vietnamese employees.
