Vietnam and Japan deepen strategic partnership in politics and technology

Vietnam and Japan reaffirmed and expanded their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during a series of high‑level meetings in July 2026. In Hanoi, Politburo member Nguyen Duy Ngoc met with LDP executive Koichi Hagiuda, highlighting Vietnam’s 8 %‑plus growth and praising Japan’s support through ODA and JICA. Both sides pledged to boost cooperation in human‑resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and parliamentary exchanges.

At the 17th Mekong‑Japan Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Vietnam’s foreign minister Le Hoai Trung and Japan’s Motegi outlined five priority areas: high‑quality infrastructure, resilient supply chains, digital transformation, water‑resource management and cybersecurity, stressing joint implementation of projects.

Party leaders Tran Cam Tu and Trần Cẩm Tú hosted LDP secretary Koichi, proposing an annual party‑to‑party exchange mechanism, youth legislator programmes and deeper coordination across economic, energy, science and innovation fields. The meetings aim to cement political, economic and technological ties between the two nations.
