Vietnam and Laos expand economic and high-tech cooperation
Vietnam and Laos are strengthening bilateral ties through enhanced economic, infrastructure, and technological cooperation. During a mid-term meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Committee in Da Nang, officials discussed accelerating projects such as the Hanoi-Vientiane expressway and railway connections. Investment from Vietnam into Laos has seen significant growth, with 20 projects registered in the first seven months of 2026, totaling $638.3 million—a 4.2-fold increase compared to the previous year.
Beyond traditional sectors, the two nations are expanding cooperation into high-tech industries, including digital transformation, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence. A Lao delegation recently visited Da Nang to study its digital government models and semiconductor ecosystems.
Domestically, Vietnam is seeing rapid growth in its digital technology sector, with August revenues estimated at over 680 trillion VND and digital exports reaching $22.4 billion. Concurrently, various national administrative and social initiatives are underway, including legislative reviews by the National Assembly and community programs focused on drug prevention and women's empowerment.
