Vietnam and Laos hold sixth joint border specialists meeting in Luang Prabang

From 14–16 July 2026, the sixth joint meeting of border specialist delegations from Vietnam and Laos took place in Luang Prabang, Laos. Vietnam’s delegation was led by Nguyen Hoàng Hải, Deputy Chair of the National Border Committee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while Laos was represented by Anousin Khattilath, Chief of the Office of the National Border Committee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two sides reviewed the implementation of the 2025 border protocol, the 2025 border management and checkpoint agreement, and related accords. They highlighted stable border conditions in the first half of 2026, ongoing cooperation on security, immigration, trade, and joint field surveys. The meeting also emphasized public outreach on border law, plans for the latter half of 2026, and the aim to model a peaceful, cooperative, and sustainable Vietnam‑Laos border.

The delegations signed the minutes of the sixth round, reaffirming commitment to protect sovereignty, enhance border security, and promote economic development along the frontier.
