Vietnam and Lithuania deepen ties during foreign minister's Hanoi visit

On 28 July, Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc received Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys in Hanoi. The meeting highlighted the intention to strengthen the traditional friendship and the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the European Union.

Both officials agreed to expand cooperation in sectors such as the digital economy, financial technology, renewable energy, LNG infrastructure, port development and logistics, and to fully leverage the EU‑Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). Vietnam affirmed it will create favourable conditions for Lithuanian firms investing in the country.

Tuc urged Lithuania to push for swift EU ratification of the EU‑Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), to support the removal of the EU “yellow‑card” restriction on Vietnamese seafood during Lithuania’s EU Council presidency in early 2027, and to finalize bilateral frameworks on double‑taxation, visa‑free travel for official passport holders, education and labour. He also pledged assistance to the Vietnamese community living in Lithuania.
