Vietnam assumes APEC 2027 chairmanship following Hong Kong finance meeting
During the 33rd APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting (FMM 2026) held in Hong Kong, Vietnam officially accepted the role of host for the APEC 2027 process. Vietnamese Finance Minister Ngo Van Tuan met bilaterally with Chinese Finance Minister Lan Fo’an and U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Erin Browne to discuss regional economic stability and preparations for the upcoming year.
Vietnam has announced four priority themes for its 2027 chairmanship: strengthening capital markets to unlock private investment for innovation, promoting data-driven finance to improve access for SMEs, diversifying financial resources for development, and enhancing the quality of young financial professionals.
The meeting in Hong Kong also addressed global economic risks, including geopolitical tensions, supply chain vulnerabilities, and persistent global imbalances. Finance ministers from the 21 member economies pledged to improve macroeconomic policy coordination and economic transformation to ensure regional resilience ahead of the APEC summit in Shenzhen.
