Vietnam and Northern Territory seek to expand economic and aviation cooperation

Vietnamese Consul General Pham Hai Anh conducted a series of diplomatic meetings in Darwin, Northern Territory, to strengthen cooperation between Vietnam and the Australian territory. Following the state visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to Australia in August 2026, officials from both sides expressed a commitment to expanding bilateral ties.

Key areas of discussion included traditional sectors such as agriculture and education, as well as emerging opportunities in rare earths and liquefied gas. There is a specific focus on enhancing connectivity through potential direct flights between Vietnam and the Northern Territory.

Northern Territory Governor David Connolly expressed interest in fostering deeper ties with Vietnamese provinces, including Ho Chi Minh City, Khanh Hoa, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau. Additionally, Australian officials pledged to facilitate better visa processes for Vietnamese students and workers and to support Vietnamese business investments in the region.
