Vietnam and Philippines mark 50 years of diplomatic relations

Vietnam and the Philippines commemorated the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties on 15 July 2026. A ceremony in Can Tho, organized by the university, the local friendship union and the Vietnam‑Philippines Friendship Association, featured speeches from interim Philippine Consul‑General Shirley Nuevo and Vietnamese officials. They highlighted five decades of cooperation and pledged to deepen the newly‑enhanced strategic partnership signed during a state visit in June 2026, which covers politics, trade, education, science, defence and security.

The event included an exhibition of photographs and paintings illustrating cultural links, as well as artistic performances, underscoring the role of people‑to‑people diplomacy in reinforcing mutual understanding within the ASEAN family.
