Vietnam and Procter & Gamble renew fight against counterfeit goods

The Agency for Domestic Market Surveillance and Development (DMS), under Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, has renewed its partnership with Procter & Gamble (P&G) to combat counterfeit goods and protect intellectual property rights. The memorandum of understanding was signed in Hanoi on October 9, expanding on a cooperation framework established in 2023.

During the first nine months of 2026, Vietnamese market surveillance authorities handled 19,646 cases of counterfeit goods and intellectual property infringements, collecting approximately 250 billion VND (US$9.6 million) for the state budget. In September alone, authorities processed over 1,700 cases.

Enforcement efforts have identified violations involving P&G brands such as Pantene, Head & Shoulders, and Olay, including a specific instance of counterfeit Olay skin-whitening cream. Authorities are also targeting e-commerce violations, which accounted for 635 cases and 11.4 billion VND in revenue during the first nine months of the year. To assist in identification, P&G has provided genuine and counterfeit samples for public exhibitions to help consumers and businesses distinguish authentic products.
