South Korea and Vietnam expand energy and trade cooperation

South Korea and Vietnam are strengthening bilateral cooperation across energy, industry, and trade sectors to support sustainable development and net-zero commitments. During recent high-level meetings, officials from South Korea’s Ministry of Climate, Energy, Environment and Natural Resources and Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade discussed practical implementation plans following a summit in April.

Key areas of collaboration include the expansion of power grids, renewable energy, and the full lifecycle of nuclear power development, including operation and workforce training. South Korea aims to share its expertise in grid construction and management to help Vietnam meet rising electricity demands driven by rapid industrialization.

In addition to energy, the two nations are working toward a bilateral trade target of $150 billion by 2030. Discussions also focused on industrial cooperation, such as technology transfer, supporting industries, and human resource training to integrate Vietnamese enterprises more deeply into global supply chains. Experts from both countries also convened in Hanoi to discuss green finance, carbon market mechanisms, and public-private partnerships to facilitate the transition to low-emission infrastructure.
