Vietnam and South Korea eye smart agriculture cooperation

Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) possess significant potential for cooperation in smart agriculture. By combining South Korean technological capabilities and management expertise with Vietnam’s production conditions and market potential, the two nations could develop modern, practical agricultural models that increase product value and benefit farmers.

Vu Phong Lam, a research professor at Chungnam National University, noted that South Korea is shifting toward high-tech agriculture, identifying smart farming as a new growth driver. She highlighted the importance of an ecosystem that links governments, universities, research institutes, technology firms, and farmers to bridge the gap between research and practical application.

A key component of this model is data-driven production management. Smart farms utilize sensors to monitor temperature, humidity, light, CO2 concentration, nutrients, and crop growth. This data allows for precise adjustments to growing conditions and enables the use of AI to forecast yields and detect pests or diseases early.
