Vietnam and Tanzania strengthen economic and trade ties
The second session of the Vietnam-Tanzania Joint Commission for economic, trade, technical, scientific, cultural, and social cooperation concluded in Dar es Salaam and Arusha. The meeting aimed to transform bilateral potential into concrete projects and strengthen Tanzania’s position as a key partner for Vietnam in East Africa.
Delegates discussed several priority areas, including politics, diplomacy, security, finance, investment, and transport. Key technical focuses included agricultural production and processing, irrigation, fisheries, forest management, climate change response, digital transformation, and telecommunications infrastructure. Both nations committed to finalizing legal frameworks, specifically the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (BIPA) and the Double Tax Avoidance Agreement (DTA), to foster a more transparent business environment.
Economic ties showed positive growth, with Tanzania’s trade surplus with Vietnam rising from $140.9 million in 2022 to an estimated $314.2 million in 2025. Notable corporate developments included Intimex Group JSC signing cooperation agreements with Akros Cashew Factory and a memorandum of understanding with Mohammed Enterprises Tanzania Limited (METL). Additionally, the success of Viettel’s Halotel investment in Tanzania’s telecommunications sector was highlighted as a model for future cooperation.
