Vietnam and Thailand deepen strategic partnership on 50th anniversary
On 27 May 2026 Vietnam’s General Secretary and President To Lam visited Thailand, meeting the Vietnamese community in Udon Thani, paying tribute to Ho Chi Minh and being hosted by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The trip marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and concluded with the signing of 20 cooperation agreements covering science, technology, education and business.
On 9 June 2026 the Thai prime minister visited Vietnam and met To Lam at the Presidential Office in Hanoi. Both leaders pledged to expand the comprehensive strategic partnership, targeting bilateral trade of US$25 billion – with a longer‑term goal of US$50 billion – and to deepen collaboration in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, defence, and multilateral forums such as ASEAN and the United Nations.
