Vietnam and Thailand marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, first established on 6 August 1976, by reaffirming their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The milestone was highlighted during a high‑level meeting in Hanoi on 5 August 2026, where Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man hosted Thai National Assembly President and House Speaker Sophon Zaram.

Both delegations pledged to expand cooperation across defence, security, trade, infrastructure, tourism, education, science, technology and cultural exchange. They set a target of US$25 billion in bilateral trade per year and committed to joint projects on logistics connectivity, digital transformation, green growth and climate‑change response. The leaders also underscored the importance of ASEAN centrality and Mekong sub‑regional mechanisms in sustaining regional stability.

The anniversary was accompanied by a series of cultural and historical commemorations, recalling past high‑level visits since 1978 and recent events such as the inauguration of a Thailand‑Vietnam cultural street gate in Nakhon Phanom and joint cultural programmes in Hanoi.
