Vietnam and UNICEF strengthen partnership for child protection

Vietnam and UNICEF are strengthening their partnership to advance child protection, education, and development. During a meeting in Hanoi, Vice Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra met with Sanjay Wijesekera, the UNICEF Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, to discuss five decades of cooperation between the two entities.

Vietnam has made significant strides in child welfare, including achieving universal secondary education and reaching record-low child malnutrition rates. The government is currently working to expand upper secondary education and refine institutional frameworks to support vulnerable groups, such as ethnic minorities and children in mountainous regions.

As digital transformation progresses, Vietnam is prioritizing child safety in the online environment. The Prime Minister has approved a program for the protection and support of child development in the digital space for the 2026–2030 period. Additionally, Vietnam is implementing a national program to prevent and reduce illegal child labor through 2030.
