Vietnam and United States pledge new chapter in strategic partnership

Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung and U.S. Ambassador Jennifer Wicks met in Hanoi on July 8, marking the United States' 250th Independence Day, to reaffirm the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations. Both officials expressed confidence that the relationship will move into a new, stable, substantive and effective phase, built on mutual respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The partners highlighted the evolution of ties from diplomatic normalisation in 1995, through the Comprehensive Partnership of 2013, to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2023, and outlined a forward‑looking agenda that includes economic, trade, political, security, law‑enforcement, health and education cooperation.
