Vietnam and Uruguay seek to deepen bilateral ties and regional cooperation

Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung and Uruguayan Deputy Foreign Minister Valeria Csukasi Cabrera met in Hanoi to discuss deepening bilateral ties and expanding inter-regional cooperation. During the meeting, which took place during Cabrera’s working visit from August 16 to 18, Trung emphasized the importance of the traditional friendship between the two nations.

Both officials highlighted the rapid growth in bilateral trade, though Trung noted that current levels remain below the full potential of the relationship. To address this, he called for increased coordination regarding high-level delegation exchanges, stronger ties between legislative bodies and ministries, and enhanced connectivity between businesses.

The discussions also focused on the potential for both countries to act as bridges between their respective regions. This includes supporting ties with major institutions such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
