Vietnam and U.S. expand defense cooperation on dioxin remediation

Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defense and the U.S. Embassy have signed new agreements to expand cooperation on war legacies. This includes increasing U.S. aid for dioxin remediation at Bien Hoa Airbase from $300 million to approximately $430 million.

In other developments, Vietnam’s military has deployed a field hospital and engineering unit for UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and Abyei. Economically, Hoa Phat Group has proposed halting research into a $3.3 billion steel complex in Dak Lak Province due to market risks. Additionally, TikTok Shop Vietnam will implement a new logistics service fee for parcels exceeding 10 kilograms starting October 12.

Authorities have also issued warnings regarding tourism safety. Tuyen Quang Provincial Police cautioned travelers against fake hotel social media pages that use fraudulent images and reviews to scam tourists during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Meanwhile, officials in Ho Chi Minh City warned of a scheme where individuals pose as tenants to establish illegal waste dumping sites.
