Vietnam Announces Low‑Emission Zone and Sustainable Aviation Fuel Plans

Vietnam's deputy prime minister highlighted three priority environmental issues. The government is beginning to deploy sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on commercial flights, coordinating airlines, fuel suppliers and energy firms to build a domestic SAF supply chain.

Hanoi approved a low‑emission zone within Ring Road 1, covering nine central wards, aiming to curb vehicle emissions in the capital. Concurrently, wildlife protection efforts expanded, including the rescue and release of a rare lesser adjutant bird, sea turtles, and an elongated tortoise, as well as a grant of roughly $0.9 million to support elephant corridor projects.

Additional initiatives cited were the preparation for UNESCO revalidation of Dak Nong Global Geopark, the hatching of critically endangered Vietnamese pheasants at a Belgian zoo, safe disposal of wartime bombs found in Quang Tri, and the acceleration of a Japan‑funded drainage management project in Cần Thơ.
