Vietnam Deputy PM orders end to teacher training at non-pedagogical schools
Deputy Prime Minister Lê Tiến Châu has directed the Ministry of Education and Training to overhaul teacher training and recruitment to address the country's teacher shortages and quality issues. A key directive is to end the practice of training teachers at non-pedagogical institutions to ensure higher standards.
New recruitment mechanisms will be introduced, incorporating assessments of professional capacity and pedagogical psychology at the entry level. The government also aims to tighten exit evaluations, focusing on practical skills, classroom management, digital literacy, and AI application.
To resolve teacher shortages, local authorities are tasked with ensuring sufficient staffing by the 2026-2027 school year through recruitment, transfers, and contract arrangements. Additionally, the government plans to develop key pedagogical universities focused on training, scientific research, and technology transfer.
