Vietnam approves >5 million VND monthly stipend for nuclear power students

The Vietnamese government issued Decree 176 on 19 May 2026, taking effect on 7 July 2026. The decree grants a range of benefits to lecturers, students, graduate‑level scholars, researchers and managers in the nuclear power sector. Eligible under‑grad and university students receive a monthly allowance exceeding 5 million VND, based on a base salary of 2.53 million VND. They also qualify for merit‑based scholarships of 1.5 to 2.5 times the base salary. Graduate students (master’s level) obtain stipend payments of 3.5 times the base salary, while doctoral candidates receive 5 times the base salary, with tuition and dormitory fees waived. Recipients must be enrolled in institutions designated by the Prime Minister, sign agreements with nuclear plant investors, and meet academic performance criteria. The measures aim to attract and retain talent for Vietnam’s emerging nuclear power industry.
