Vietnam approves creation of centrally administered Bac Ninh city
The Vietnamese government has approved the dossier for establishing Bac Ninh as a city directly under central administration, according to Resolution No 205/NQ‑CP dated 1 August 2026. The Ministry of Interior was assigned to coordinate with other ministries, incorporate feedback from the Cabinet, and prepare the presentation, proposal and draft resolution for the National Assembly.
The plan aims to build a green, smart and modern metropolis that leverages high‑technology sectors such as semiconductors, micro‑chip manufacturing and artificial intelligence. It also calls for modern transport and logistics infrastructure, a streamlined urban government, and improved living standards for the province’s nearly four‑million residents. Bac Ninh sits at the northern gateway to Hanoi and is a key node in the Hanoi‑Hai Phong‑Quảng Ninh economic triangle.
The approval marks a major step toward transforming the region into a high‑tech industrial hub while preserving its cultural identity.
