Vietnam arrests marriage fraud duo Hoang Trang and Hoang Cham Anh

Police in Thailand Nguyen province, Vietnam, have arrested two suspects, Hoang Thi Ha Trang (born 1998) and her younger cousin Hoang Cham Anh (born 2007), for a marriage‑fraud scheme. The pair used a falsified marriage certificate to convince Chinese national Lin Huijin, born 1977, that they were eligible to marry him. Believing the deception, Lin transferred approximately 495.97 million VND as a bride price. After receiving the money, the two divided the funds for personal use. The investigation, conducted jointly by the Thai Nguyen and Phu Tho provincial police, has led to criminal charges of fraud and a warning to the public about similar scams.

The case highlights ongoing concerns over fraudulent marriage brokerage targeting foreign nationals and the misuse of traditional bride‑price customs.
