Vietnam's National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn sets agenda for upcoming legislative session

On 2 August, National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn chaired a meeting of the Party Standing Committee and parliamentary group leaders in Hanoi to align on key priorities before the first extraordinary session of the 16th National Assembly. He stressed the need to evaluate the impact of each policy, avoid codifying practical shortcomings, and focus legislative work on substantive reforms rather than technical repetitions.

The upcoming session will consider 33 items, including 15 bills, four legal‑normative resolutions, seven first‑time bill reviews, personnel decisions, and six major socio‑economic and investment issues. Chairman Trần urged rapid yet careful work, strong innovation without compromising quality, and ensuring that laws translate into development. He referenced guidance from the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, General Secretary, and President Tô Lâm, noting that “the National Assembly does not make laws to complete a program; it makes laws to open the way for development.”
