Vietnam authorities prosecute counterfeit gas ring and transformer theft

Authorities in Vietnam have launched criminal investigations into two separate criminal activities involving fraud and theft.

In Hanoi, police have prosecuted five individuals for the production and sale of counterfeit gas. Investigators discovered several facilities engaged in illegal gas decanting and the manufacturing of fake labels. The suspects reportedly exploited loopholes in gas cylinder management, using stolen brand names, anti-counterfeit seals, and shrink wraps to make their products appear legitimate. To evade detection, the group operated across multiple locations for different stages of production, including gas filling, storage, and distribution.

In Ha Tinh province, police have arrested Tran Tuan Hung for the theft of a transformer. Hung, a former electric industry worker, allegedly planned the theft after discovering an unattended transformer at the Cam Minh brick factory. He reportedly hired an accomplice to assist in transporting the equipment for the purpose of dismantling and selling it for profit.
