Vietnam auto market sees MPV sales rise and deep discounts on sub‑1 billion VND C‑crossovers

Vietnam's small‑size MPV segment recorded a 17% sales increase in the first five months of 2026, selling 17,398 units, according to VAMA and Hyundai Thành Công data. Mitsubishi Xpander remained the segment leader with over 6,700 units sold, followed by Toyota Veloz and Kia Carens. Toyota Veloz posted an 88% growth year‑on‑year, while Toyota Avanza and Honda BR‑V experienced declines.

In parallel, the overall car market slowed, with VAMA reporting 29,936 vehicles sold in May 2026 – the lowest monthly total since the start of the year. To stimulate demand and clear inventory, manufacturers and distributors offered substantial price cuts on C‑segment crossovers priced under 1 billion VND. Mazda CX‑5, Hyundai Tucson, KIA Sportage, Subaru Forester, MG HS and other models received discounts ranging from tens to several hundred million VND, bringing some versions below 700 million VND. The Mazda CX‑5 remained the top‑selling crossover with 6,979 units in the first five months, while Subaru Forester saw reductions of up to 380 million VND per unit.
