Vietnam Aviation Authority advances green flight management ahead of CORSIA

The Vietnam Aviation Management Authority (VATM) says that as aviation‑sector emissions targets become enforceable, green conversion must move beyond individual airlines. By organising airspace more scientifically and optimising flight paths, VATM claims fuel use and CO₂ emissions can be cut without new aircraft or engine technology.

VATM will join the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) on a voluntary basis from 1 January 2026, ahead of the scheme’s mandatory phase in 2027. Vietnam has pledged net‑zero emissions by 2050, and the authority is developing modern flight‑management methods, digital meteorological data, and tighter civil‑military coordination to reduce idle time, holding patterns and unnecessary altitude changes.

Vietnam Airlines confirms it will meet its CORSIA obligations, continue to optimise routes, adopt newer aircraft, use sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and cut single‑use plastics, reinforcing the industry’s shift toward lower‑carbon operations.
