Vietnam Bank for Social Policies expands student credit programs

The Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) is implementing credit programs to support students and families facing financial barriers to higher education. In Lao Cai province, total outstanding debt for student loans under Decision No. 157 reached 67.4 billion VND as of July 31, benefiting 1,229 students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

In addition to traditional social welfare loans, a new credit program specifically targeting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields has been introduced under Decision No. 29/2025/QD-TTg. This initiative aims to nurture high-quality human resources for digital transformation and sustainable development.

In Nghe An province, families have utilized these specialized STEM loans to cover high tuition fees and living expenses. For example, some families have transitioned to the new STEM-specific program to receive higher monthly support, covering full tuition and providing additional funds for living costs, ensuring that high-achieving students in technical fields can continue their studies despite economic hardships.
