Vietnam banks alert public to new mobile and speaker payment fraud schemes

Co-opBank warned that fraudsters are impersonating bank or technical support staff to persuade owners of payment‑speaker devices to install unknown applications. The scams use suspicious links that can install malware, capture personal data, OTPs, passwords and enable unauthorized money transfers. The bank urged users to avoid installing apps from unknown sources, never share security codes or personal images, and to report any suspicious activity to the bank or police.

Vietcombank issued a similar alert about SMS phishing that pretends to be a reward‑points reminder. The messages contain links to counterfeit Vietcombank sites that request card details, CVV, expiry dates and OTPs. Once the data is supplied, criminals can link the card to digital wallets and drain the account. The bank advised customers not to click unfamiliar links, never disclose card or OTP information, and to block any compromised cards immediately through official channels.
