Vietnam bans parent representative boards from collecting class funds
New regulations from the Ministry of Education and Training, effective November 15, prohibit parent representative boards from collecting class funds and other miscellaneous fees. This policy change has sparked differing opinions among parents regarding the management of student activities.
Some parent representatives express concern that the inability to manage pre-agreed semester funds will create logistical difficulties for organizing student events, such as celebrations, year-end ceremonies, and small rewards for students. There are calls for clearer guidance on the distinction between parent-managed funds for student activities and school support funds.
Conversely, other parents argue that the ban will ensure spending is more transparent, economical, and strictly compliant with regulations. Proponents of the change suggest it encourages parent boards to focus more strictly on student-centered activities and eliminates unreasonable expenses.
