Vietnam begins construction of 18km Hon Khoai sea-crossing bridge

Construction has commenced on the Hon Khoai sea-crossing bridge in Ca Mau, Vietnam, a project valued at over 25,700 billion VND. Spanning more than 18km from the Ho Chi Minh Road in Dat Mui to Hon Khoai Island, the bridge will be the longest sea-crossing bridge in Vietnam and the third longest in Southeast Asia.

The project is being managed by Project Management Board 166 on behalf of the Ministry of National Defense, with Binh Doan 12 (Truong Son Construction Corporation) serving as the direct contractor. To manage the complex maritime conditions, the contractor has mobilized over 1,000 pieces of equipment and 2,000 workers operating on a three-shift, four-team schedule.

Technical specifications include a design speed of 80km/h and a bridge width of 16.5m. Construction involves significant engineering challenges, including drilling piles deeper than 100m into weak geological seabed structures. The contractor has invested heavily in specialized high-value equipment to ensure progress despite wind and storm conditions.
